family of quilters

In 1998, we began spending our days helping our mom take care of our ailing father. He was having a lot of trouble walking, getting out of bed, getting into the car and pretty much doing everything. We spent our days going to dialysis, physical therapy and generally helping care for our dad. The rest of the time was spent quilting.

In the middle of all of this, our dad suggested that we start a business that we could do while we "waited for him to need us"- it was natural to start a machine quilting business. And that's how Nana's Capo Beach Quilting was born! Our dad and mom gave up a room in their house, that became our studio. We bought a Gammill classic machine with a 14' table and in 2000 we started our machine quilting business.

Our business has grown since then from strictly machine quilting to the launching of our online business including Moda fabrics, fat quarters, quilt kits, baskets from Ghana. Reproduction vintage state tablecloths, kitchen towels, rugs, aprons and notions. Our retro holiday items are really cool! We carry a variety of patterns- including patterns we have designed ourselves, our first pattern was called "Bricklayers' Daughter", for our dad, a master brick mason.

Our dad has since passed away but we still spend our days in our studio, keeping our mom (known to all her grandchildren as "Nana";). company.

Any day spent sewing, is a good day!

Last weekend was our annual trek to Houston for Quilt Market. It is our marathon shopping weekend for fabrics from Moda Fabrics, Windham and Free Spirit and others. We also shop for patterns, quilt kits, home accessories and sewing notions. We are very excited about all the new spring fabrics, patterns and home accesories!

Our first stop was at Moda Fabrics, they have some really wonderful new lines! "Sanctuary" is the new line from Three Sisters, it's soft and pretty giving that "spa" feeling. "Chez Moi" by Sentimental Studios, is sure to be a favorite line, we especially love the large rose's and paisleys. Another sure favorite is "Summer in the City" by Urban Chiks, 60's retro fabrics- houndstooths, silohettes of birds, plaids, paisleys, stripes and beautiful fowers .

We found some really cool retro table linens! Can't wait to get them! Our first favorite was a vintage Old Mexico inspired design called "Fiesta", we ordered tablecloths, potholders and kitchen towels- Ole'! The new "Bandana" line looks like old cowboy bandanas in navy and barn red- we will be carrying tablecloths and the "Rhinestone Cowgirl" kitchen pack with an adorable rhinestone embellished apron, oven mitt and hot pad- Yee Haw! "Hawaiian Delight" is the new island inspired tablecloth, reminescent of Old Hawaii- soft and tropical in turquoise and coral. New dishtowels called "How does your garden grow?" are so sweet and retro with a crochet edge.

Windham Fabrics, definately a new favorite supplier! We ordered the "Garibaldi II" line by Karen Witt. It is so beautiful- featuring red, black and cream colors. It is just so pretty!

Free Spirit- Love, love, love the new Robyn Pandolph line! "Empress Woo", soft and creamy colors. Her best line ever! We also picked up the new color palate of "Flea Market Fancy"- pinks, yellows and browns- Oh My!

Had a great time at International Quilt Market Fall 2006- looking forward to 2007!

This is our first posting, looking forward to many more! Visit us at http://www.nanascapobeachquilting.com to see our current fabric, notions and home accessory selections.

Any day spent sewing, is a good day!
